Roles and permissions
Permissions are per user, per brand. Someone can be an owner of one brand and a limited member of another on the same account.
Permission areas
Each area has a view and a manage permission. view reads, manage writes.
| Area | Covers |
|---|---|
content | Planning, drafts, queue, carousel templates, video |
comments | The outreach comment queue and its sources |
automations | Instagram automations |
research | Channels, videos, search, hooks, scripts, projects, insights |
metrics | Metrics and insights reports (view only) |
connections | Connected social accounts |
settings | Brand settings, persona, posting schedule |
team | Members and invitations |
billing | Subscription and plan changes (manage only) |
Owner-only actions
Some things are restricted to a brand owner regardless of permissions:
- Renaming the brand and editing its contact details
- Inviting, resending, cancelling and removing members
- Creating another brand
The reasoning for the last one: a new brand goes on the account's bill, so a member should not be able to add one.
Practical shapes
Solo. You are the owner. Everything is available. Nothing to configure.
With an editor. Give them content.view and content.manage so they can draft, approve and schedule, plus research.view if they should use research. Leave out connections, settings and billing.
With a VA handling DMs. automations.view and connections.view, plus the inbox, which sits under content. Leave out everything else.
Approval is a permission, not a safety net
content.manage includes approving and scheduling. Anyone with it can publish on your behalf, through the queue, to your connected accounts.
The human-approval rule guarantees a person approved something. It does not guarantee it was you. Give content.manage to people you trust with the account.
Where to set it
Studio, then Settings, then the Members tab. Roles are assigned when you invite someone and can be changed afterwards.
Members with no settings.view permission see the Settings page read-only rather than not at all.
